MEERLUST PINOT NOIR GETS 5 STARS RATING IN THE 2009 PLATTER GUIDE

December 2008

"The first vintage of Pinot Noir on the Estate was produced in 1980 and I am grateful that our perseverance has paid off after many attempts. I have always been a great fan of this variety and my biggest regret at this moment is that we could not have made more of the 2004 Pinot" says Hannes Myburgh, the owner of Meerlust. Hannes praises his staff for the dedicated effort they  have made in producing this world class wine. "Hats off to all concerned. Our  next challenge is to continue to produce Pinot of the same standard in future vintages".

Chris Williams comments "The Meerlust 2004 Pinot Noir was the only Pinot Noir to receive this coveted award in the latest edition of the guide. My thanks goes to our Viticulturist, Roelie Joebert, who understands the dedication and
attention to detail that making world class wine demands, and to my cellar team at Meerlust for their commitment to quality and hard work . Of course, Hannes Myburgh's love of Pinot Noir and tenacious foresight in continuing with this temperamental variety has allowed the Meerlust team to keep focused on producing superlative wines. 2004 offered almost perfect conditions to make great Pinot Noir. A cooler than normal vintage, coupled with dry weather and very low yields all contributed to making this a wine of which we are very proud"
