RAATS CHENIN RISES ABOVE THE CROWDS

November 2007 by Peridot Communications

The 2006 Raats Chenin Blanc recently scored 90 in the definitive American magazine Wine & Spirits. According to the publication, the 2006 Raats Chenin Blanc "rises out of the crowd of South African Chenins with lovely varietal clarity and length of flavour".

Wine & Spirits has specialised in serving, as a practical guide, to the informed enjoyment of fine wine for the past 18 years. The magazine conducts all wine evaluations in a controlled, blind tasting after a broad-based screening panel has identified wines that surpass the standards of their varietal or appellation. Only between 20-30% of the wines submitted to the magazine are forwarded to the wine critics. Scores of 90 and over are only awarded to wines that are considered exceptional examples of their type.

Charismatic winemaker Bruwer Raats has been unrelenting in his belief that South African Chenin Blanc can put the country in a position as world leader and American wine critics are definitely supporting this unwavering commitment.

His 2006 vintage expresses the classic aromas characteristic of Chenin Blanc with a hint of straw and white fruit. The elegant complexity of this vintage makes it a great pairing wine for dishes like game fish, duck and even spicy prawns or oysters, but is also perfect to enjoy on its own.
